If you haven't checked out the Love is Blind UK: The Official podcast yet, it's hosted by the show hosts, Emma and Matt Willis. They sat down with two of the most controversial cast members from the show, Sam "Boring Brown" Klein and Catherine "Cat" Richards to talk about their reactions to watching their journey in the Love is Blind UK pods. Special guest commentators this week were The Receipts Podcast hosts Tolly and Audrey.
Here's the recap for Cat Richards:
In the pods
While she is no stranger to turning down incompatible dates, Catherine found it hard to turn down Ollie, especially because it was his birthday. That may be so, but considering Ollie was going to dump Cat anyway, I'm sure it was a relief not having to do it himself. I don't think the sparks were really flying in the pods as much as they obviously were with Demi.
Ana speaking of Demi, Cat stated she is actually her best friend from the show.
On Sam
She thinks Sam Klein is misunderstood and quite funny. She admits he looks almost exactly like her ex. Probably for the best they didn't get together then!
On Freddie
As you probably know, Freddie Powell was Cat's match coming out of the pods. They got engaged and it seems at least from what we see, like a pretty turbulent relationship from the get go. Freddie is more light hearted and Catherine came across as serious and sensitive.
Despite what was shown, she still states she has a lot of love for Freddie, just not as a partner. She's thankful for him, and her parents loved him. She said she was shocked he said no, and the hardest part of that was how much his relationship with her parents grew and their disappointment.
Allegedly what we didn't see is that while Freddie said he wanted to continue dating after the wedding, that was not his true feelings once the cameras stopped rolling. Her words, not mine. While I also love Freddie, let's not forget how hard we all were rooting for Trevor on season 6 of Love is Blind.
While I will give a caveat that a lot of the villains get bad raps, I haven't spoken to Trevor yet so I can't give a true opinion on what he's like in person. Just remember, the edits we get aren't a full view of someone's personality, so while Cat seemed a bit harsh and Freddie seemed like an angel sent from 6 pack heaven, there's probably a fair middle ground in reality.
Cat's last big takeaway from dating in the Love is Blind UK pods is she didn't realize how much her adoption affected her relationships.
On her current love life :SPOILER ALERT!!!!:
While Cat and Freddie didn't work out, she is currently dating another member of the pod squad, Jake Singleton-Hill, and the two live together.
On to the recap for Sam Klein:
Again, we only see a small fraction of the cast's lives, so please, don't come so hard for any of them. That being said, here's what Sam had to say for himself about what we did see.
On his reveal with Nicole
There was nothing malicious behind what he said about her eyes, he just had a lot of nerves and was panicking. According to Sam, he was trying to be light hearted and saying her eyes were boring brown was just a bad, nervous joke. He thinks her eyes are beautiful.
When talking about his wishy washy of I love yous, Sam does regret that he didn't say he thinks he's falling in love with her. He just wasn't sure at that point. Let's be real, these people get engaged in TEN DAYS!!! I don't care if you mainline enough coffee and who knows what else to stay up 24 hours a day for 10 days, you cannot possibly know enough about the person on the other side of the wall to truly know them, so I think it's totally valid that he might not have been fully convinced he loved her.
Living together, meeting the families, etc definitely gives them time to figure it out. I can also see why Nicole would be upset, because of course if you're getting married, you should definitely know if you love the person on the other side of the altar. These are unique circumstances though, so I can see where Sam is coming from.
Despite their rocky start, Sam called the reveal the best experience of his life. He said nothing could top those emotions and that moment.
About "Beggars Can't Be Choosers"
He admits his iconic deliveries and choice of words were...poor. Definitely not a good look. According to Sam, he was trying to brush off his disappointment in things ending with Jasmine and show a sense of bravado for the other men.
On His Insecurities
I think if nothing else, it's pretty obvious that Sam putting his foot in his mouth repeatedly has a lot to do with his insecurities. He openly admits that he was bullied a lot because of his physical appearance growing up, and that has effected him in relationships and life in general. He is still insecure about his nose, but happy with the results of his rhinoplasty
Sam said he learned that he doesn't have to keep his emotions in and be "strong because he's a man" all the time. He has become more open about his insecurities and emotions since filming Love is Blind UK, and has grown a lot.
About the Breakup
Unsurprisingly, they didn't address Sam's claim he rejected Nicole's sexual advances post-engagement. I would have loved to hear his side of how that really went down, but overall he said he's happy for Nicole and Benaiah.
One more spoiler for you
Apparently there were a total of 11 engagements on this season of Love is Blind UK. WHATTTTT?!!!!! Is there any couple you wish would have been replaced airing the show?
What do you think about Cat and Sam from Love is Blind UK?
